Mario Maltese, 6 1/2 years old, 7 lbs., neutered male. Has Lupus, and arthritis as a result of it. His right ankle has degenerated so that without a splint he walks on the ankle rather than the foot. The left elbow joint has also degenerated but he is able to use that leg quite well. He had two pins inserted in his right ankle in July. One was removed in Sept. The other is still in place and he can walk without the splint most of the time. He is on Prednisone for the Lupus and needs the dose adjusted when it flares up. He also is on a special diet and supplements to help his immune system. He is a darling boy. A little protective of whoever's lap he happens to be on. Devoted and loving.
